What can I expect in my first session?

I will ask you to come to our first session a few minutes early to complete some paperwork. This paperwork will ask for some demographic information and some questions about what you have been dealing with and what is bringing you to therapy. It is normal to feel nervous at first; we will go at your pace. The first session is really a chance for us to start to get to know each other and to start to identify the goals that you want to focus on in therapy.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. I am legally and professionally obligated to keep the information you share with me confidential. In our first session, I will review the exceptions to this, when I am legally bound to share information. Additionally, I will share your information if you ask me to.

How often are therapy sessions held?

In our first session, we will discuss how often our sessions can be scheduled. I will give you my professional opinion based on your goals and what you would like to work on, but the decision is ultimately yours. At the start of therapy, sessions are typically held weekly or bi-weekly.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long. If we decide together that you may benefit from a longer session, we may do so.

What are the fees associated with services?

Psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP at this time. However, some extended health benefit plans provide coverage for services. My services are provided on a sliding scale, so please contact me directly to discuss specifics about fees. The Clinic accepts credit card and e-transfer.

There is no standard length of treatment. This depends on what your goals are, and we can discuss this as we are working together. I am happy to work with you on both short- and long- term goals.
